Chelsea SummerFest: July 25-26, 2008

Food, Fun and Music!

Join us at SummerFest for food, drink and music. In addition to the awesome music in the very popular Food & Entertainment Court, there will also be live entertainment on stage in front of the McKune Memorial Library and in the pavilion at ARTicipation.

The Food & Entertainment Court at SummerFest is located in parking Lot #2, which is behind the Common Grill restaurant. Local restaurants will offer a variety of delicious food and drinks. Food will be served from 5:00 until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

In addition to the Food & Entertainment Court, there is also food and drink available at the many local restaurants in Chelsea, as well as food vendors located throughout SummerFest, including those at Kid Zone, ARTicipation and other venues.

All ages are welcome in the Food Court before 9 p.m. After 9 p.m., only 21+ will be admitted. Admission prices are as follows:

Main Stage - Friday, July 25

  • 4:30 -6:15pm: George Bedard and the Kingpins 
    The music of George Bedard & the Kingpins is as solid and dependable as a '57 Chevy and as flashy and flamboyant as a long-finned '59 Caddy convertible.  American roots music — rockabilly, blues, country, swing, surf, soul, rhythm and blues, and early rock 'n' roll.
  • 6:45-8:30pm: Billy Mack and the Juke Joint Johnnies
    Blazing Rockabilly sensations- A perfect match to light up Friday night. You won't be able to sit still as group sets the joint a rockin'.
  • 9:00pm-11:00pm: Fifty Amp Fuse
    A Multimedia Tribute to some of the greatest music in our lifetimes. The Band covers an extremely wide range of music. FAF takes you on a Rollercoaster ride through the eclectic yet enigmatic explosion of the 60's from pop to rock without leaving out any of the raw energy of that time ... then leads you into the timeless funk and soul of the 70's, for a dance set that will have your heels smoking ... then into the punk new wave era of the 80's.

Main Stage - Saturday, July 26 Main Stage

  • 4:30 -6:15: The Alligators
    A band with more energy, stellar musicianship, and a pure blues attitude. You'll feel the strong desire to grab a cold, long-necked beer and some barbecue on your way to the dance floor. Some great upbeat, butt-wiggling, foot-stomping music.
  • 6:45pm-8:30pm: The Rusty Wright Band
    Rusty Wright is an incendiary guitarist and from his first note the stage practically sizzles with high octane energy as he throws down a six-string gauntlet and challenges his band to ever greater heights as tasty guitar, sax, Hammond B3 and vocal riffs volley across the stage. Fronting the band with Wright is his wife, rhythm guitarist vocalist Laurie LaCross-Wright, a compelling singer with a vivid and expressive vocal style.
  • 9:00pm-11:00pm: Lady Sunshine and the X Band
    Lady Sunshine and the X-Band were formed in 1994 and have been causing quite a stir since then. The Stax-Volt legacy is definitely alive and kickin' with these players! This group is a product of the 'Motor City' and is a reflection of the very essence of Detroit – Emotion.

Library Stage - Friday, July 25

  • 1-2pm: Opus Mime
    OPUS Mime is a professional non-profit theater company dedicated to creating and performing original mime theater works and furthering understanding and appreciation of the unique art of mime, whose purpose is promoting the art form of mime rooted in the work of French masters Marcel Marceau and Etienne Decroux, and Polsh master Stefan Niedzialkowski.
  • 2-3pm: Jeff Wawrzaszek
    One of Michigan's most popular and experienced magicians. Jeff has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years. That doesn't mean he's really old...it just means he found his passion and niche in life at a very early age and is sure to capture your family's attention and leave them wanting more.
  • 3pm-4pm: Sunkwa
    The Ypsilanti-based group led by Kofi Ameyaw draws its roots in Ghana with tunes that fuse world xylophone traditions from various part of Africa, and have compositions commingling world beat rhythms. It's a unique combination, utilizing an ancient mallet keyboard and a modern team of dynamo performers. They have snagged new fans wherever they go with their powerful, complex rhythms and sheer energy.

Library Stage - Saturday, July 26

  • 1pm-2pm: Cowgirl Cabaret
    Cowgirl queen Elizabeth Royce and her band will charm you with performances of country classics and popular tunes from folk to funk with a western flair.
  • 2pm-3pm : Big Daddy Fox
    Big Daddy Fox is the best kept secret in the Blues Scene, playing the guitar for over 30 years, and sharing the stage with greats like Willie Foster, Eddie King, & Larry McCray. Nicknamed the “King of the New Millennium Blues” by the late blues great Willie Foster, Big Daddy's Shows are a must see!
  • 3pm-4pm: The Terraplanes
    The Terraplanes are a rhythm & blues powered vehicle that will take you along the entertainment highway to a swinging place where you can jump and shout. They play an irresistible mixture of house rockin' blues and uptown swing, R&B, soul, and roots rock-n-roll, influenced by the music of Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis, Detroit, Texas and the Mississippi Delta. Their performance song list spans a wide variety of popular covers and originals that are guaranteed to wear a hole in your dancing shoes.

Articipation - Friday, July 25

  • 3:00pm-4:00pm: TBA
  • 3:00pm-5:00pm: Keith Parmentier
    With a musical style he describes as "New England coffee shop singer/songwriter", Keith started playing his music when you could walk into small, comfy places around Boston and New York and hear Bill Staines, Patty Larkin, or Chris Smither while drinking a cup 'o Joe. He was inspired by music for the bliss of your ears and your mind.

Articipation – Saturday, July 26

  • 4:00pm-6:00pm: Lisa Pappas
    An exceptionally talented songwriter and vocal talent with a unique, gently rocking style, Lisa has captivated audiences everywhere. SummerFest goers were thrilled with here performance last year, and we are delighted she is able to return this year.
